Two For The Price Of One.
While working on a brand new play, I got to participate in another Opera experience. First things first.
Spokane is home of a wonderful place - The Hutton Settlement, a home for orphaned children. (look it up for more details - https://huttonsettlement.org/) 2019 marked the 100th anniversary of the Settlement, and a local playwright wanted to do something about it. The result - a 2 Act Play about Levi Hutton and how he was inspired to create the Settlement. A cast of about 40 worked for 2 months workshopping the play, with the playwright in the director's chair.

During the rehearsal process, I had the chance to be in MADAME BUTTERFLY as a supernumerary. (I just did it because I like saying "Supernumerary"!)(well, that and they paid me) The folks at Inland NW Opera were a joy to work with. And we had many an interesting discussion in the Dressing Room about the differences between opera and musical theater.
